LOOK 860

Quite a few examples of LOOK‘s early foray into monocoque carbon fiber frames can be found via the various online auction and forum channels, due to them being highly favoured by aspiring triathletes who like to upgrade their kit each season. Most will need their aero bars removed, which will usually reveal a workable modern classic underneath.

Sydney’s Alex Lord, an industrial designer, has been spending most of his riding time aboard his Kumo Cycles road bike, but decided he wanted something a little different to commute upon. He chanced across this LOOK 860 frame online which ticked all the right boxes, as he’s a fan of ‘webbed’ frames, and it’s somewhat more unique than the average compact frame.

A quick conversation and deal resulted in a Shimano 600 group and wheel set which doesn’t look out of character on the mid-90s frame, while a scavenge through the parts bin secured the remaining components, like a matching ‘hidden bolt’ stem, complementary Dura Ace front mech. A pair of Cinelli Criterium bars wrapped in LOOK’s Mondrian-inspired color scheme brings the ensemble together.

Special thanks to #lordayplease for the fine photography.
