Velo City: Bicycle Culture and City Life

The terms “all-road bicycle” and “gravel bicycle” are often used interchangeably, but there are some differences between the two types of bikes.

An all-road bicycle is more versatile, and designed to be ridden on a variety of surfaces — including pavement, gravel, dirt roads, and light trails. These bikes typically have a more aggressive geometry and shorter wheelbase than gravel bikes, which makes them more responsive and better suited for faster road riding. All-road bikes also tend to have narrower tires than gravel bikes, usually between 28-35mm.
