Although it’s something we’ve suspected for a while now, Speedvagen make a refreshing point with their Rugged Road line: ultra-light and super-stiff carbon fibre road bikes are ideal for race situations but they just aren’t that practical for the everyday cyclist.
Portland’s Speedvagen workshop have provided the rides for many successful racers over the years, both cyclocross and road. Their Rugged Road range, however, equip riders with a vehicle that’s a little more easygoing than a strict race machine.
Don’t be mislead, though, the Rugged Road has all the refinements that make a Speedvagen so appealing, like custom geometry and tire size clearance, their integrated seat mast, Berzerker dropouts and proprietary steel tubing.
There are optional upgrades such as the frame pump or hubs that can be painted to match the frame. For this build, the team also created custom mounts for the Honjo fenders so they could work with ENVE’s thru-axle forks.
The paint is the HollaText in Industrial Grey with two tones of gold fade underneath. Matte Jet Chris King hubs and headset and an ENVE SES 4.5 ARS wheel set complete the ensemble, which looks even more usable and utilitarian than the infamous Urban Racer.
