Velo Orange is creating a legacy of classically-inspired components for the modern tourer, commuter, and randonneuring cyclist — including frames like their Polyvalent, built up for a customer who knows a thing or two about how to put a bicycle together.
Have you encountered Whatbars yet? It’s a database of handlebar comparisons for the rider looking for their ideal ‘alt’ or flat bars. Chip is the brains behind it and chose Velo Orange as the supplier of a new “super classy commuter/tourer/whatever-er”.
Chip opted for the handsome 4130 double-butted chromoly steel Polyvalent frameset to base his all-rounder on, designed around a 650B or 26″ wheel size, assuring a comfortable and reliable journey, with clearances up to 47mm, including fenders.
The 1×11 drivetrain consists of SRAM Apex 11 rear derailleur, a Wolf Tooth 110bcd narrow-wide, art-deco chainring, and a complementary Grand Cru Fluted Single Crankset.
A Wald basket up front and Velo Orange baggage handles portage duties.
Chip, who knows what makes a decent handlebar, opted for VO’s Curvy One Bars, tipped with their Foam Cork Blend Grips, and Linear Pull Brake Levers. We’d be lying if we didn’t think it was an optimum combination.
It’s an efficient assembly, marrying the constructeur aesthetic with the latest technology and ergonomics. Really, if you’re after an affordable everyday, all-weather bike, a Velo Orange frame and components have certainly raised the bar.
