What better way of documenting Brooks’ new all-weather Cambium saddle than crowning a pair of Stelbel’s SB03 road bike with them — equally well-designed and another sublime combination of classic and ultra-modern.
Stelbel contributed a specially customized black and white SB03 to model the new saddles which Jim Holland, the graphic designer at Brooks England, took to Stanage Edge in the Peak District, and Stiperstones in Shropshire, for a dramatic shoot.
As the new carbon-framed all-weather C13 saddles are currently only available in white and black, it was appropriate the bikes should match. Jim then complemented the two by photographing them in black and white also.
This is the second time Brooks and Stelbel worked with each other to launch a C13, the last being a couple of years ago for the original saddle release. This year’s match included one of the new disc brake-specific model (it’s the black one).
The bikes featured here were painted in the non-stock colors of white and black, and modified with custom graphics on the top tube. The weather might have been rubbish, but it’s such conditions that the C13 was designed for.
Since the saddles’ inception in 2013, the Cambium has been a triumph for Brooks, bringing the 150-plus-year-old company into the modern era, and a Stelbel SB03 is a thoroughly contemporary road bike with the traditional benefits of steel.
The combination of the two are a match made in heaven, but the Cambium has proved itself to be a brilliant saddle straight out of the box on any style of bike. Its new weather-resistant capability is yet another feather in its cap.
