Don’t let Adam Sklar’s photos deceive you: this new build to leave his Montana workshop is heading to Brooklyn, NY, to lead a new life as a New York messenger’s play bike, and it’ll make the daily battle against the traffic all worthwhile.
While the bike messenger has the best job in the city, it’s also one of the hardest. Their work bikes are some of the most abused bikes ever, so having a special one in the stable to ride when they’re not on call is a real treat.
Adam’s client, Dan, lives in Brooklyn and wanted a recreational bike to ride on weekends with mates and, perhaps, explore trails beyond the city limits. Adam replied with a signature Sklar, built up with top-shelf parts.
The Columbus-tubed frame is pictured with 48c Compass Switchback Hill rubber but can accommodate a 2.3” knobby. Dan went all out on his dream Sklar, building it up with Paul Components, a White Industries drivetrain, and ENVE forks and bars.
This frame is a proprietary Sklar, which Adam has designed to be built up in all sorts of modern configurations, such as CX, monster ‘crossers, and gravel grinders, so Dan’s is a ‘Performance Hybrid’ of sorts. We just think it’s a dream bike, and so will Dan.
