Sam and Judith run Stayer Cycles, your Local Bike Shop in Leytonstone, East London. It’s more than a shop: he’s a frame builder and she’s a wheel builder. They’ve just offered up a new addition to their range, the phat and phunky Groadinger.
We’ve actually featured a couple of Stayer frames on The Spoken previously: Sam’s own Snot Rocket — a camera-carrying camper designed specifically for his riding around the Epping Forest — and a dazzling stainless steel fast road bike for Joe.
The enigmatically-named Groadinger is an Off-The-Peg frame, meaning you can walk into the shop (or order through their website), pull one of the shelves in a small, medium or large size, and take it home with you. Or have them build it up for you.
We’re particularly fond of this setup, assembled with an amazing pair of Italian Ingrid cranks and chainring. The Groadinger is available in three colors, this example is Swamp Dip, and there’s also Raw Raw, and Appelblauwzeegroen Sunfade.
It can basically be described as a fat tire gravel fun bike, and the numbers match the description: the geometry is agile with a “super-short” chainstay, and clearances for 47mm 650b and a 42t chainring.
While the OTP frames are a standard shape, custom options are available. Rupert, one of their mates, ordered one with Boost spacing for 2.1″ 650b tires and a 40t chainring. That’s him below, getting sideways in the Appelblauwzeegroen Sunfade paint.
Obviously, Judith’s handbuilt wheelsets stand up to the abuse, and they’d be a fitting optional upgrade. The Groadinger an adventure machine, to be sure. The name? G(ravel) R(oad) Dinger(‘Thingy’ in Flemish).
