Peter Weigle has been building classically styled American frames for many years now, a Specialized advertisement from 1987 describes him as ‘one hot framebuilder’ (which is why he rides Specialized’s Turbos). His client base is his best advertisement, he doesn’t actually need a website or cross-marketing. A darling of the Cirque du Cyclisme, this beauty won the 2008 award for Best Randonneur, and it’s not hard to see why.
A masterful integration of modern components and elegant design, Peter’s Randonneur combines a Campagnolo 10-speed Chorus gruppo with Mafac calipers and an uber-reliable SONdelux dynamo front hub secured with a proprietary Weigle winged skewer. Peter constructs his own racks as well, allowing for a custom mount for the Supernova lamp. It’s when you contract a custom builder with these sort of skills that the result is a concise, complete unit. The lugs are also manufactured by Peter, in a ‘French cut’ reminiscent of René Herse and Alex Singer. A custom tail light and matching pump rounds out the perfect vehicle for an extended tour.
