Francesco Moser TT

Francesco Moser TT 51.151 Hour Record

Francesco Moser was one of the world’s fastest cyclists during the late 70s and early 80s. A time trial specialist, the mountains of the Tour de France proved a challenge, but he reveled in flatter stages and events such as the Paris Roubaix, which he won three consecutive times. His real triumph came in 1984, when he set a new Hour Record over that of one Eddy Merckx.

Moser’s Record-winning machine was frowned upon by cycling’s governing body, the UCI, because of his use of disc wheels and aero bars. This isn’t the actual bike used by Moser to win the 1984 Record, it belongs to the Speedbicycle collection of Switzerland’s Stefan Schaefter. Constructed from Columbus tubes, it’s kitted out with a Campagnolo Super Record gruppo, Ambrosio/Gipiemme/Miche 700/650 disc wheels, tubular tires and a Regina CX Krono 6-speed freewheel.

Moser now owns a vineyard in Rento, Italy, and our friends from Eroica Cicli recently had the honor of visiting him and providing a photographic insight into his shed. Check out more detail shots of this bike at the Speedbicycle collection.
