Purveyors of high-quality and classy cycling accouterments, Velo Orange, have once again proved their fearlessness and innovation with the introduction of their latest frame prototype: the Small Wheeler.
This is exciting news for anyone who has harbored a modicum of interest in mini-velos as VO, with their Small Wheeler, has finally created a version that is versatile, functional and visually appealing.
The great thing about the Small Wheeler is that it takes the use of BMX’s 20″ wheel size — its phatness and indestructibility — and actually refines it with the elegance of a drop bar randonneur or tourer, an aesthetic Velo Orange specializes in.
VO’s Instagram feed also revealed the frame in a single speed guise with what looks like 3″ riser bars and that, combined with 4130 tubing and enough eyelets on the forks to mount Anything cages and extra accessories, converts it into a beefy fun machine.
Mini velos’ rideability is no secret. It’s easy enough to achieve the same geometry of a standard-sized bike using smaller wheels, which opens up a whole new world for the apartment-dwelling commuter, Rinko tourer, or inner city multi-use vehicle.
2.3″ tires with fenders? Check. 1 1/8″ threadless steerer? Check. Disc brakes? Check. Universal component compatibility? Check. Paint is to be confirmed but apparently, it will sparkle. This is shaping up to be a very appealing offering.
VO estimate the price to be around US$725. The Small Wheeler might not fold, but it eschews that complicated feature to focus on solidity and fun. Now, how would you build it up and where would you ride it?
