Not only because I come from a land Down Under am I pleased to present to you today’s post, but also because it is such a world-class machine. Teschner is a frame manufacturer based in, of all places, Byron Bay on Australia’s east coast. From such a location (traditionally the home of colourful, tie-dyed smokers of dubious substances) come frames that exist at the bleeding edge of technological excellence.
Established in 1990, Teschner now have a well-known name for themselves creating frames from aluminium, titanium, scandium / alloy blends and are now pushing the carbon fiber envelope. While there’s only 4 frames in their stable, this is their top road racing model, the SL9. It’s owned by who I’d imagine would be a very proud Melbournian, Wilf Sweetland. The build was completed by Graeme of Endless Pedal and consists of a healthy mix of Campagnolo Super Record, Speedplay Zero pedals, C-4 hubs and Edge clinchers. Endless Pedal is an online purveyor of fine road cycling products, primarily C-4 components and KinLin rims.
One thing’s for sure, I’ll be seriously looking at a Teschner frame not only for that ‘Proudly Australian’ decal on the seat tube: the quality of manufacturing is equal to if not greater than overseas construction. Definitely the leader of a long Australian bike building tradition.
