Misty Mesa Hop: A Sabrosa Cycles 29er Hardtail

We finished 2019 featuring a Utah frame builder. And coincidentally, the first bike of 2020 also hails from the Beehive State. Jon Hanson and his garage are located in St George, UT, out of which he builds Sabrosa Cycles — and this is Shalena’s 29er.

Shalena and John Taylor both own a Sabrosa — John races single-speed events on his, placing 3rd in the famous 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo a few years ago — and they recently took them on a multi-day bikepacking trip along Moab’s Hey Joe Safari route.

Jon doesn’t advertise Sabrosa anywhere, he just builds for friends and family. His day job is teaching geology and that, combined with his passion for mountain bikes, bestows upon him an intrinsic knowledge of the legendary Moab trails like Slickrock.

We’re big fans of Sabrosa’s signature seat stay cluster — a kind of wishbone/fork lug system — but we especially love Jon’s dedication to keeping it local and catering only to his community. Here’s to encountering a Sabrosa in the wild one day.
