Sean and Anna Virnig of Rawland Cycles aren’t strangers to this whole ‘adventure’ or ‘all-road’ bike scenario at all. Founded in 2007, they prototyped the fat-tyred, disc-braked Ravn in 2009, along with a slew of co-models. The brand and products have just undergone a refresh, and is back with the all-new Ravn and Ulv models.
The Ravn is the taller of the two, compatible with 26″, 27.5″/650B, or 700C tyres, and is designed for the Adventure, Gravel, Rando, Bikepacking and Road Plus genres.
The Ulv is named after Odin’s warriors and is described as an Adventure, Bikepacking, Singletrack, Mid-fat Rando, 27+ Drop-Bar MTB. It’s a multi-talented dirt warrior too: able to run 27.5″/650B or 29″ tyres.
From the press release: Designed for fast and fun XC adventure, the Ulv is a drop-bar mid-fat rig with rando, MTB, and bikepacking DNA coiled together within its high performance steel.
Attack trails and devour high mileage over challenging terrain. Load up the camp kit and get lost. Go wild. This beast was born to thrive in the backcountry, whether your aim is singletrack shredding, dirt rando, epic exploration, or all of the above.
The Ulv features low-trail geometry, intuitive handling, and a super-premium Rawland Staal tubeset, for excellent responsiveness and energy return, lightweight strength, and a lively ride.
We’ve been dreaming of this bike for a few years, but the tires, rims, and drivetrain needed have only recently become reality. Whether you call it 650B-plus, 27.5″ mid-fat, or 27+, we believe that 650B wheels running roughly 3″ rubber make for a phenomenal experience when you’re out exploring serious singletrack, traveling long distances through the roughest stuff out there, or randonneuring into the back of beyond.
You can also run 29er wheelsets; just mind your effective outer diameter and bottom-bracket height. Part of Rawland’s Berserkerverks line, the Ulv is a smart, swift, and tough adventurer, like its legendary namesake.
You can pre-order the Ulv and the Ravn as a complete for US$2,999 and a frameset for US$950. Head to their website for more information.
