Peter Verdone has a penchant for vehicles from popular science fiction culture. Who doesn’t? The last of his bikes featured here was the Warp Drive Engin, there’s already a PodRacerOne in his suite and today reveals the TRON Light Cycle. Although, with the amount of thought, wisdom and tinkering that goes into each frame, they could all be called Millenium Falcon.
This is Peter’s own flat-bar cyclocross bike, another fine example of the mental napkin-sketching Peter dedicates to each project. He’s one of those obsessive engineer types who nuts out every detail, down to tyre choice and Q Factor. The geometry of the Light Cycle is such that if the 42C tyre is replaced with a 23C, the bottom bracket sinks to the same height as his road bike.
A SRAM S952 crankset was installed, removable spiders allowing variance of any chainring possible — “So if a ride is going to warrant skinny wheels but have cruel levels of climbing,” Peter tells us, “I can slap in a 36/24t ring setup, lower the FD and shorten the chain and I’m done. Super cool.” Acute observers may recognize the dropouts from the Firefly Bicycles workshop, Peter designed them.
Bicycles aren’t the only machines Peter toys around with. Firearms, motorcycles and skateboards have all been wrenched by him, as he continually strives to improve them or make them roll faster or more efficiently — an honourable pursuit.
