Nua Bikes SC-01

One of the most likeable innovations to cross over to the world of the bicycle from that of the motorcycle has to be the belt drive. It all looks good on paper: cleaner and quieter than a chain, longer lasting and lighter. They are perfect for the urban bicycle, as proved by the SC-01 from Nua Bikes.

Roberto Aznar is the founder of Nua Bikes. He’s based in Barcelona and is an incredible engineer, with degrees in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. He also built his own house, including the installation of the plumbing, electrics, welding, bricklaying and carpentry.

Then he decided to construct his own sound-insulated recording studio, to house his music-making: manipulating sounds with circuit bending or using loops of analog tape. Recently, he began exploring the world of Arduino micro-controllers and designed his own 3D printer.

Like many of us, he is captivated by the bicycle and the design thereof. Two years ago, he decided to marry his love of riding with engineering and started Nua Bikes. The quest to build the ultimate commuter began. The SC-01 is the first machine to fulfil that exploration.

The SC-01 is a titanium-framed city bike, based on the belt drive format and is available as a production model. It comes equipped with eyelets for mudguards and racks and allows for tires of up to 47mm. It’s specified with a Brooks B17 and grips on a matching pair of ti handlebars.

The design is superb, as you’d expect from Roberto’s credentials. He’s happy to answer any queries and purchase enquiries: you can contact him through the Nua Bikes website. The pre-order period ends on January 31, so the time is right.
