If you read The Spoken, chances are you’re the type of person who prefers things a little different to the stock standard. Something a little custom, something a little handmade. Andrew Groves is a UK-based illustrator, designer and maker of hand-carved wooden camping utensils, who I am incredibly proud to have worked with on the new The Spoken Honor Patch.
That last skill set may seem slightly tacked on, but when you view his two-dimensional work to his objects, you’ll realize it’s a perfect extension of his style. Andrew has been working as a freelance designer for the last 6 years, drawing inspiration from the outdoors. In 2011, he embarked on a hiking adventure to the far north of Sweden which took his design in a new direction.
Andrew was introduced to the traditional handicrafts of the Sami people, who make beautiful wooden cups, bowls, spoons and tools from the natural materials available to them in the northern wilderness. With reinvigorated inspiration, Andrew started Miscellaneous Adventures. I was so impressed with what he was doing I asked if he was interested in a collaboration and, lucky for us, he was.
The Miscellaneous Adventures X The Spoken Honor Patch is the result of that collaboration: a reminder that no matter where we live, adventure is only a short bicycle ride away. This 65mm, high quality embroidered patch is easily affixed to most suitable materials (your panniers, club jacket or rucksack, for instance).
Simply set an iron to the highest setting (cotton/linen), position patch in desired location, place a tea towel over it and press iron on top for 90 seconds. It’ll stick fast, and permanently, so make sure you’ve got it in the right spot. A limited run of 200 is now available in the The Spoken webstore for $13 including postage.
