While a studio setting reveals the essential details, it’s always more stimulating to look upon a beautiful bicycle in a natural environment. Max Lundbeck is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, but the owner of his latest bike was moved to photograph it against its new home, the mountains of Boulder, Colorado.
The Lundbeck Cycles logo forms a graphic representation of an exclamation mark, which is a perfect representation of Max’s philosophy towards his framebuilding style: “designed and fabricated one at a time with a style that is clean without losing its sense of fun”. Most appropriate.
The frame was designed as a cyclocrosser, finished just in time for the US season, but with a bit of a twist. The beauty of a custom frame is that if you want a bike that can race ‘cross and then be able to tour on it in the off season, you can, like the new Lundbeck, order eyelets and braze-ons for racks.
Like those of us without a dedicated bike garage, the new owner rides a lot, but doesn’t have the space for the n+1 theory (where n is the number of bikes currently owned), so a CX and a tourer was combined into one, which is definitely a nifty solution.
Max only uses Columbus tubes, and he’s modified the stock tubing with professionalism. Sporting TRP mechanical disc brakes, Thomson stem and mast, and an H Plus Son wheelset, it’s well-equipped to handle both race and recreational riding — not to mention looking good while doing so.
