Greg LeMond is considered to be one of the greatest American cyclists of all time. This week, LeMonster has returned with a new bike brand — some of the sleekest and tidiest urban rides we’ve ever seen. They’re designed beautifully, carbon fiber — and electric.
Aside from being an incredibly talented athlete, Greg LeMond is also a champion of new technologies, namely the use of carbon fiber as a legitimate frame material for racing bicycles, which his new bikes are also constructed from.
At this stage, there are two models in the range, the step-through Dutch and the Daily, shown here in the pink color scheme. This is just the beginning, however, with “a whole ecosystem of products under the LeMond bike brand” to be developed.
We’re loving the minimalist look, a result of the integrated stem/bar combo, lighting system and hidden motor and battery. Nothing seems to be out of place and there’s a notable lack of bells and whistles — literally.
This design language is unsurprising, coming from a racer who was one of the first to make use of the aero helmet and handlebars during that golden era of road racing… which seems a long time ago from the super-modern aesthetic of his new brand.
The new branding is peppered with nostalgic retro references to those days and LeMond’s racing history, which add a sense of integrity to the bikes, as well as a joyful dash of 80s culture. No complaints from us.
From the press release: Fast, fluid and lightweight, the Daily is what happens when a three-time Tour de France winner designs a bike for everyday use. From frame and fork to fenders, LeMond is taking carbon fiber to new levels, and the Daily is poised to win the category. On top of the full carbon fiber frame, barstem, and seatpost, the Daily features seamless battery integration with the sleek MAHLE ebikemotion® X35 motor and a multiple mode light system that’s fully integrated into the barstem and seat stays and charged by a single port. The Daily also features the Shimano GRX Hydraulic 1×11 drivetrain, tubeless compatible aluminum wheelset, and Spurcycle bell. MSRP: $4,500
The Daily is equally as exciting, albeit in a more dignified and European pose, containing the same tech and features, packaged into a step-through frame design. Hopefully, the Daily will dispel the myth that a mixte is a ‘lady’s bike’.
From the press release: According to Greg, the Dutch is “one of the best decisions we’ve ever made,” a timeless, practical design that LeMond has made lighter and faster. The Dutch-style bike is one of the most popular designs in the history of the bicycle, particularly in flat, dense European cities, and LeMond has made it ready for the world stage – a gorgeous carbon fiber eBike for any outfit, any rider, and any road. The Dutch shares the same feature set of the Daily, with carbon fiber stem, seatpost and fenders, seamless battery integration with the MAHLE ebikemotion® X35 motor, the fully integrated multiple mode light system, Shimano GRX Hydraulic 1×11 drivetrain, and premium accessories throughout including a Spurcycle bell. MSRP: $4,500
Upgrades available for both models include a LeMond carbon fiber wheelset, Shimano Di2 electronic-shifting drivetrain and Brooks England saddle. Yes please.
“The bikes are just the starting line. For the past five years, we have been driving toward developing a vertically integrated carbon fiber platform. From this position, a whole ecosystem of products under the LeMond bike brand will be developed,” said Geoffrey LeMond, Chief Strategy Officer, LeMond. “For now, we will be rolling out new bikes and eBike models as well as other peripheral product lines inspired by the era of racing when my dad was winning his tours and world championships.”
