One of New Zealand’s finest wheel builders, Tristan Thomas of Wheelworks, commissioned a disc brake-equipped road bike from Independent Fabrication. It’s one of the first frames to emerge from IF’s (new) New Hampshire home, and it’s proof that they’ve settled comfortably into their new space.
Tristan has held a deep respect and desire for Independent Fabrication frames for many years, ever since he was a ‘teenage mountain bike grom’. I’ll assume, however, that a disc brake-equipped road bike is significantly different to the bike he dreamed of owning back then. Tristan grew up on Vancouver’s North Shore, and visited New Zealand in 2002, only to fall in love with the country and one of it’s female inhabitants. He started Wheelworks to introduce quality wheelmanship to Wellington, and, aside from building some of New Zealand’s fastest wheels, is now also a regular contributor to both New Zealand Road Cyclist and New Zealand Mountain Biker magazines. And Directeur Sportif to Team Wheelworks Racing, among other roles.
