Nate Mumford is a photographer based in New York, which is also home to Thomas Callahan and the Horse Cycles stable. Nate recently took some shots of a visit to Thomas’ shop which were animated into a GIF, giving a rapid-fire insight into the space where Horse Cycles are created. This is the latest, an elaborate and fully functional long distance tourer.

Thomas went all out on this frame; it’s destined for a tour across America which will really test its mettle. It’s well equipped, however: a full suite of Schmidt Original Nabendynamo hubs and lamps with internal cable routing are guaranteed to light the night roads. The front and rear custom racks are a work of art in themselves, designed to keep the cantilever brakes free of obstruction.

SRAM’s Force drivetrain has been enlisted, highlighted by their WiFLi rear derailleur, which allows a wider range of gears than a triple chainring setup when paired with an 11-32 cassette. The frame was nickel plated before being masked and painted—fenders included—in baby blue. A cooper-railed Brooks B17 and matching leather bar tape top the build, providing all-day touring comfort.

Special thanks to Nate Mumford, who also took these fantastic shots. I’m really looking forward to seeing this bike fully loaded and after a couple of thousand miles but in the meantime, head to the Horse Cycles flickr page for more photos.

PS: It’s a pleasure to welcome Veloved on board as The Spoken’s latest sponsor. Veloved is an online boutique of the latest and most stylish cycling attire. Check out their webstore, they’re helping to keep the pedals of The Spoken turning.
