Last weekend, after a couple of previous attempts, Australia finally hosted a very successful Handmade Bicycle Show in Melbourne. It’s a positive indication of the incredibly vibrant and innovative level of our local scene.
From ultra-modern, fast-paced and sleek road machines to classic lugged beauties, quirky cargo bikes to graveleurs, wooden bikes, and mountain bikes, there was something for everyone. New builders rubbed shoulders with some of Australia’s most experienced builders.
Melbourne’s heritage-listed Meat Market building hosted three days of displays from twenty-one makers from Australia, mingled with a few overseas visitors. It was a proud moment and enabled fans the realization that our local craftspeople are on par with the best from the rest of the world.
Hopefully, it will open the eyes of the Australian market to the pleasure and satisfaction of owning and riding a custom bike, and the fact that we no longer have to import these magnificent machines from overseas.
What follows is a selection of images to whet your appetite — but for a more concise and informative read, head to the AHBS website and the story on FYXO, who captured these inspiring photographs. We’ll look forward to seeing you at the 2019 show.
