Some of my most treasured possessions are my grandfather’s woodworking tools, not only because they still work reliably, but for the chips and nicks in the handles, the drips of paint and stains, and the smell of old wood and metal. SILCA just added a high-grade set of hex keys to their range, which will develop the same patina over time, and last long enough to absorb memories of your own.

The keys are made out of S-2 Tool Steel, a material developed by Swiss and German toolmakers for superior strength and harder edges and surfaces. A thin-dense chrome is then applied, adhering an extra hard surface to the tools, before being spray-coated with a high-grip, high-visibility textured polymer finish for maximum grip and control.

From the press release: Few tools are used as frequently, and can cause as much heartache or wasted time as the seemingly simple hex key. It’s one of the first things you notice at the top levels of motorsport tools, or in the toolboxes of Pro-Tour mechanics: extremely high quality hex keys. The reasoning is simple, better tool fit leads to better feel and confidence for the mechanic as well as a significant reduction in the likelihood of damaging exotic fasteners made from titanium or aluminium.
