The work of graphic designer Chris Piascik should be easily recognized by now. Each installment in his ‘All My Bikes’ series was eagerly anticipated by bike bloggers around the world right up until the last piece, which featured his newly completed road frame by bespoke bike and accessory manufacturer, Freeman Transport.
‘All My Bikes’ is now a ‘zine compiling typographic illustrations, in Chris’ signature style, of each bike that Chris has owned. After owning numerous BMX, MTB, fixed gear freestyle bikes and even lowriders, Chris has now reached a point with his cycling that required a tailored road frame. No wonder, with his design and illustrative orientation, that he opted for a frame by a manufacturer whose focus is also design and functionality. Freeman Transport is the creative outlet of artist and designer Nathaniel Freeman and Benjamin Ferencz, and first made waves in the handmade bicycle scene by being one of the first builders to stylishly incorporate S&S couplers into a frame, which was then able to be packed into a waxed cotton traveling pack created by Billykirk. As a namedropping aside, the bison skull lockup and logotype of Freeman Transport was designed by one of my favorite graphic designers, Benny Gold.
Chris’s frame geometry is a custom fit to his singular physiology, being “all legs and a shortish torso”, and his own bold style has been exhibited in the overall scheme — the plum paint (and that subtle branding of the gloss Freeman logo against the matte) and the black components are a stark contrast with the white cable housing. It is really put into correct context when compared with the ‘All My Bikes’ illustration. You can pick up a signed and numbered copy for yourself in the Print Brigade shop.
