Velo City: Bicycle Culture and City Life

Flint Custom Cycles Road

Flint Custom Cycles Road

The dust from the 2014 Tour de France has just settled, and most Australian followers of the World’s Greatest Bicycle Race have managed to get back to a normal sleep routine, but the next grand tour that I’m looking forward to is the 2015 Tour Down Under. Not just for the visiting racers, but to reconvene with Adelaide’s burgeoning custom scene. A new builder that I’m hoping to catch up with is Lachlan Flint; of his self-named Flint Custom Cycles.

This recent frame was photographed by Don Brice, who shot the Vitus 992 that caught our eye a while ago — another Adelaide local. Flint already has a few contracts on the boil, having just completed a bike for his wife and a top secret “radical project” for a friend who swore him to secrecy. We’ll hope to see more of that soon. To me, Adelaide is the more grounded capital city to her cool Melbourne and flamboyant Sydney sisters, seeming to be a fertile environment for custom builders.

See you there in January!
