Boston’s art scene has been a considerable influence upon the Firefly Bicycles crew. They made a special point of adjoining an art gallery space to their workshop and both have surgically clean walls — the gallery to view works of art, the workshop because titanium requires such an environment for assembly. The trademark anodized finishes that adorn their frames further blur the lines between sculpture and engineering, especially this touring frame built for an Ibiza-based photographer.

Stefan Rohner has already completed many bicycle tours already, aboard an old mountain bike and a ‘cross bike, neither of which were specifically designed for the purpose. He’s already the proud owner of a ti Firefly road bike which he loves riding, so naturally he looked to the Boston trio of Tyler Evans, Kevin Wolfson and Jamie Medeiros for a long-distance machine. Firefly answered the call with a standout frame, ready for full luggage and eye-catching polka dot graphics.

“The tourer is amazing…” Stefan reports, “very comfortable, long wheel base, lower bottom bracket. Its maiden trip was a 2300km tour in Spain last summer. Ascending and descending, tarmac and offroad, the loaded bike did great, a very stable ride.” By the looks of things, Stefan experienced the full gamut of emotions you’d expect from such a trip, and those forks would have been sure to buoy the lowest of spirits. Special thanks to Stefan for the photography, see more on his flickr stream.
