I’ve been waiting a while to feature a Firefly Bicycle on The Spoken, having avidly followed the evolution of the Boston workshop from it’s inception. Tyler Evans, Kevin Wolfson and Jamie Medeiros have been so busy since February it’s a wonder they’re not glowing themselves.
The trio share a combined experience of 35-plus years creating high-end, handmade frames. Their purpose built, 2,000 square-foot factory is a temple to the craft of titanium and stainless bicycles, the walls and frames emblazoned with their striking logo. This road frame was built for a close friend of Kevin’s since high school, JP Baillieul. It celebrates JP’s renewed interest in cycling, and from all reports it sounds like he’s understandably overjoyed with the results. Its a 3/2.5 titanium frame with a custom-shaped bi-oval downtube and a Pressfit30 bottom bracket, built up with SRAM Force, Mavic Cosmic wheels, Selle Italia SL saddle and 3T bars, stem and post.
The Firefly blog and tumblr is a constant source of insight into the level of quality that goes into each frame and build. Tyler’s photography is sublime, and the website’s Gallery reveal the detail and innovation singular to each individual Firefly.
