Jan Kole is an ex-professional road racer from Holland who began producing frames under the tutelage of fellow Dutchmen Jaap Huisson and Sjaak van der Klundert. Due to his experience with Taiwanese manufacturing, he created a bicycle part distribution company in Hong Kong and also established his own frame factory called Colossi Cycling.

Jan has a custom hand made frame production department and also produces hand made frames for other manufacturers. He personally instructs the technicians who assemble his frames in the old school method, ‘as they were made earlier n Italy’. Jan has established a high quality range of road racing frames and this cargo bike has been a special side project. The over sized tubing has resulted in a very modular looking frame, the layout has the touch of a master designer or an architect — all triangles and right angles. Most cargo bikes I’ve encountered are long, languid looking machines, but here the 26” wheels and the fixed gear drive train have created a compact and agile ride.

Colossi Cycling produce an array of ornate, lugged stems, forks and frames. In addition to their road and tri frames, they can also create custom MTB and tandem frames. Check out their website and catalogue for details, and you can watch an episode of FLWRIDER’s [FRAME] films that feature an interview with the enigmatic Jan Kole on Vimeo.
