Colnago Crono Oro

Colnago Crono Oro

Every once in a while along comes a bike that makes me gasp. It may be because of utter simplicity, or complete over the top hi-tech glory, like this Colnago Crono Oro. Aesthetically, time trial bikes I usually can take or leave. However, I’m always amazed by the design innovations, which are wholly concentrated on enabling a machine, which is not inherently streamlined, achieve its fastest speed possible. A TT bike from 1992, conceptualized with typical Italian panache, plate it in gold, and you have a bike that will make my jaw drop.

That carbon fiber frame is simultaneously svelte and muscular and when fitted with a golden Campagnolo C-Record gruppo with a touch of Cobalto, is reminiscent of a mysterious Mediterranean making a grand entrance at a Monaco casino. Information is scarce as to whether this model saw any racing glory, suffice to say it would not look out of place skimming around a coastal road on a sunny Sunday.

Special thanks to Speed Bicycles, where you can see more detail shots and information.

PS: I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Laek House for helping The Spoken to keep its wheels turning. They have a range of clothing and accessories available to the style conscious cyclist. Not only do they have your best appearance in mind, but also your safety. Many Laek House products incorporate ELVS, which stands for Enhanced Light Visibility System. It means you’ll be more noticeable when you’re battling traffic, riding across town.
