Every once in a while along comes a bike that makes me gasp. It may be because of utter simplicity, or complete over the top hi-tech glory, like this Colnago Crono Oro. Aesthetically, time trial bikes I usually can take or leave. However, I’m always amazed by the design innovations, which are wholly concentrated on enabling a machine, which is not inherently streamlined, achieve its fastest speed possible. A TT bike from 1992, conceptualized with typical Italian panache, plate it in gold, and you have a bike that will make my jaw drop.
That carbon fiber frame is simultaneously svelte and muscular and when fitted with a golden Campagnolo C-Record gruppo with a touch of Cobalto, is reminiscent of a mysterious Mediterranean making a grand entrance at a Monaco casino. Information is scarce as to whether this model saw any racing glory, suffice to say it would not look out of place skimming around a coastal road on a sunny Sunday.
