Campagnolo at the Tour Down Under

Campagnolo at the Tour Down Under

The 2014 Tour Down Under now seems so long ago and it won’t be long before we start looking forward to that next ‘modern’ classic, the Tour de France. In Adelaide, I was fortunate enough to get behind the scenes in the team tents while the mechanics cleaned up the bikes after the Pure Blonde Stage 5 from McLaren Vale to Willunga Hill.

On the surface, today’s Pro scene may not be so relevant to the world of custom or classic bikes but, for me, it was interesting to see how Campagnolo had evolved since the 30s, when Tullio produced the first quick release hub. The Cambio Corsa, the rod-operated, back-pedal derailleur has matured into Super Record™ EPS™, the lightest complete gruppo in the world.
