Caldera Cycles Road

Chris Tuckey, of New Zealand’s Caldera Cycles, certainly hasn’t been resting on his laurels. His last bike we featured on The Spoken was a candy-green cyclocross machine, since then he’s pumped out a couple of commuters, including an impeccable fixed-gear edition. His latest frame is a specifically road-faring machine, capable of accommodating fenders and larger tires.

His customer, Katherine, is sure to be happy with the result. The blue metal flake paint looks as thick as syrup, and accentuates the details Chris incorporated into the frame. Elaborate lug work provides a contrast with the modern components and branding, while the seat tube cluster features some personalized touches.

Caldera Cycles is setting a high bar for New Zealand’s custom frame builders. With a reputation for creativity and innovation, it will be interesting to see how the Kiwi scene develops in the future. Keep an eye on developments via the Caldera Cycles website and Flickr stream.
