We’d Turn Clean: Brooks England Cambium Organic Light

The Brooks Cambium is my all-time favorite saddle — apart from that unobtainium titanium-railed Selle Italia Flite I had back in the day. But if there was one saddle I’d want underneath me for a long-distance tour — straight outta the box — it’d be the Cambium. And Brooks has just released a very exciting new update to it.

Brooks’ saddles are traditionally made from leather but their modern-day version of it is the vegan-friendly, vulcanized rubber Cambium. It’s now weather-proof and, as opposed to its leather cousins, which took more than a few months to shape to your sit-bones, is comfy right from the get-go.

Since its inception, I’ve admired the method in which Brooks updated their product for a modern market via the Cambium; it retains all of the elegance the leather saddles had, and the Cambium is like a space-age version of it. Well, with their Organic Light variation, it just got all the more attractive.

Previous parts of the undercarriage have been replaced with a new material enigmatically called Liquid Wood, “an ingenious biopolymer made completely from surplus materials that are 100% biodegradable”. They’ve obviously been squirreling some scientists away in that Birmingham factory of theirs.

The Organic Light is available in the colorways Natural (my personal favorite), Brick, Green, and Rust. The C15 and C19 are only available in Natural. They’re all pretty neutral, and I daresay you could decide on a color that would be a fitting match to your favorite steed.
