The Hollingsworth is a model that has been stewing away in the back of Royal H Cycles for a few years. The name is actually what the H in Royal H stands for and this light tourer has been a family collaboration between Bryan Hollingsworth and his Uncle Pete.
Uncle Pete Hollingsworth has been a staunch supporter of Royal H Cycles ever since Bryan founded the company in 2009. Pete himself is a cyclist, master craftsman, and woodworker, who happens to pen Royal H’s classically-inspired logos and decals.
At the 2015 Philly Bike Expo, Pete sat in on Doug Fattic’s lug carving demo, and was hooked. He bought three sets and began shaping them immediately, suitably impressing his nephew. As a result, they again began talking about the Hollingsworth line.
Bryan had built his father and Pete two incredibly ornate and historically significant bikes for the 2013 Philly show, one of which was the first Hollingsworth. This is the latest, featuring Pete’s lugs, and a smattering of old and new components.
While it may not be the final form, Bryan is confident about including the Hollingsworth as a permanent Royal H model. It’s a good call: Pete Hollingsworth may just single-handedly launch a lugged renaissance.
