One of our favourite Instagrammers, @bicyclecrumbs, has taken up residence at The Vanilla Workshop in the role of Designer, and while he’s busy adding a colourful relish to the already rainbow-hued company, his own new Speedvagen is very understated.
Bicyclecrumbs is an illustrator who has created some memorable images — and built up some incredible bikes — that have been seen in many workshops, a legacy to his passion for cycling culture.
After working on the Speedvagen 2017 Guidebook, for which the design team was instrumental in selecting the colors for the new year’s range of custom and ready-made bikes, the OG1 program — he was inspired by one hue in particular: Slate.
It’s a colour that he felt was best complemented by an all-silver groupset and component selection — in this case, Campagnolo‘s Potenza. He’s very much a details man, matching everything to the overall effect, right down to the custom all-silver Paul skewers.
Industry 9 supplied a pair of wheels and even stripped the anodization from them so they’d match and fit the retro aesthetic. A white Fabric ALM and their silicone bar tape is the literal icing on the cake.
Sim Works Wanderer bars worked with the look well, as did the gum wall tires and white iSSi carbon road pedals. Sacha White’s Speedvagen continues to innovate and confuse, but Bicyclecrumbs’ Slate OG1 satisfies the tastes of both classic and modern fans.
