2015 Melburn Custom Bike Show

2015 Melbourne Custom Bicycle Show

Get this: 2015 will be the 10th edition of the Melburn Roobaix. Over the last decade, it has grown from a clandestine alleycat race into a veritable institution of community cycling. This year will see an added attraction to the celebrations… the inaugural Melburn Custom Bicycle Show.

Here’s a brief debrief: 10 years ago, a group of 100 cyclists assembled in Federation Square for the first Melburn Roobaix. They came unprepared for what ensued: a day of thrills and spills which culminated with a BBQ at Brunswick Velodrome.

2015 marks the 10 year anniversary of that first group ride, and while the field size is bigger, the costumes, bikes and prizes are much more epic.

With a musette of items, riders navigate their way North, over the cobbled Hell that is the back alleys and laneways to the legendary Roobaix velodrome in Brunswick. There are no prizes for athletic merit — but if you get lucky you just might win an airfare to Paris to see the other Roobaix as last years winner, Jarrod Wilson, did and is days away from witnessing it.

For the 10th anniversary, the day before ‘The Hell of the Northcote’, FYXO is hosting the Melburn Custom Bicycle Show — a combination of the previously held ACBS and the beautiful display of custom bikes owned by locals, akin to Stalen Ros in Ghent.
